Popular places to visit in kathmandu

Kathmandu is kingdom of Nepal and also the largest capital city of Nepal. It is also recognized as the City of temples in the world. During the ancient time its name was Kasthamandap later it is known as Kathmandu. This city is surrounded by four mountains, these are Phulechowki, Nagarjun, Shivapuri and Chandragiri due to this reason it is knows as Kathmandu valley and also the biggest valley of Nepal. It contains 3 big cities which are Bhaktapur, lalitpur and kirtipur. Nepal is divided in to 14 zones, Kathmandu lies in Bagmati zone. This place is historically very important for Nepal and many ancient narrow streets, temples, different types of cultures and tradition are mixed with the gateway to the Nepal tourism. In Kathmandu many historical places are located which carry different historical value of Nepal.
This place is listed in world heritage site by UNESCO in 1979. The population of Kathmandu is higher and the peoples who are living here belongs to Hindu and Buddha religion and they mostly speak in their own national language “Nepali” however many people also speak English language as well.

Popular places of Kathmandu


Pashupatinath Temple: 

It is the one of the most sacred religious place located in Nepal. It is very famous temple of the world which is recognized as the biggest Hindu temple of Nepal. This temple is dedicated to Pashupatinath, it is the name of Lord Shiva and the greatest god of Hindus. This temple is very beautiful and has amazing architecture as well as surroundings, due to this reason it is recognized in World heritage site since 1979.
Pashupatinath temple is located on the side of Bagmati River 5 k.m. north-east of Kathmandu city in the eastern city of Kathmandu valley. (It is the capital city of Nepal). It is considered as one of the holiest temple of Hindu faith. This place is so much crowdie at the occasion of “Mahashiva ratri” which is most popular festival of Hindu and more than 700,000 pilgrims from the world visit at that time. It has great significance in the world which helps to elaborate the name of Nepal.

Kathmandu durbar square: 

It is one of the most popular attraction places of Nepal which is located in the Heart of the Kathmandu valley. It is often named as Basantapur Hanuman dhoka durbar. This place is historically very significant for Nepalese as well as for tourist due to it is growing as major tourist destination of Nepal. It is also one of the World heritage site among 8 from the Kathmandu. It was built in 16th and 17th century in unique architecture (Pagoda) style.
It is historical place of Nepal where Kings were crowned and legitimized and from where the all country they ruled. It is one of the most important glorious legacy and traditional heritage of Nepal.
It also consist other beautiful monuments area in Kathmandu, they are The Taleju Temple, The Jagannath Temple, The Kal Bhairav, Swet-Bhairav, Kaandasthamp, Nautalle Durbar and so on.

Syambhunath stupa:

(स्वयम्भूनाथ स्तुप in Devnagari) it is most sacred holy place of Nepal especially among for Buddhist pilgrimages and Hindus people also believed that it is the most fascinating ancient religious place. Syambhunath stupa is located in the top of a hill, 20 km west from Kathmandu city. This place is founded about 2000 years ago, it is believed that Kathmandu valley was filled with water and the late king Manjushree drained the water by his sword. It is also known as Monkey temple because a large number of holy monkey living northwest part of the temple from long period. It can also be called as the oldest religious area of the temple of Nepal. The Syambhunath consists of a variety of holy places (shrines), Stupa and temples.

This place is become very popular place for internal and external tourist for Nepal. Tourist also can experienced little trekking on the stone step, they must walk 365 stone steps to reach the main temple. This gives amazing feeling when they reach this place due to phenomenal architecture and beauty of this place. The main attraction of this place is Buddha Stupa, which has beautiful glittering eyes and eyebrows painted number one in Devnagari.  Visitor can easily reach this place in their day time and very good facility of accommodation and restaurant available here. A number of hotels, restaurant, and stores are also available. Many external and internal tourists visit this place each year.

Bhaktapur durbar square: 

It is another very prominent place of Nepal, it is a plaza in front of the royal place of the old Bhaktapur kingdom. This place is also known as Museum of medieval architecture and art of the Nepal. In Kathmandu there are other 3 popular durbar squares are located and it is one of them. Bhaktapur city is also called as Bhadgaon in Newari language and also known as city of devotees. Bhaktapur was the capital city of Nepal at the time of 12th century; the city was ruled by the renewed Malla dynasty. In Bhaktapur, the overwhelming number of Newar people about 63%. So this place is very important for Nepalese.
This place is also one of the World heritage site defined by UNESCO. Most of the temples were built in Pagoda and Shikhar style, so this place exploring ancient charm and history of the Nepal. This place is highly visited sites of the Nepal. This place is located 13 km away from the                  Kathmandu city so people can easily reach this place using vehicles. This place also consists other beautiful things, 55 window temple, Golden gate, Lions gate, Mini pashupatinath temple, Bastala temple and so one.

Nagarkot: 

Nagarkot is a beautiful village which is lies 32 km east of the Kathmandu city. Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. This place has astonishing and mind-blowing spots which is very rich in natural tremendous scenes. This place gives pleasure to watch the Mountains Everest and other beautiful hills. Many people go there to spend their holidays with their friends and relatives and mostly for see the sun set and sun rise from closely. We can see the panoramic views from this place of mountains, forests and beautiful countryside scenes. This place is located in the Bhaktapur district and also Changu Narayan temple can be found there. This is one of the place which is enlisted in the world heritage site by UNESCO and this temple is dedicated to the lord Bishnu of Hindus.
